A degree with a highly predictable shelf

B.Com, BBA and BMS syllabuses across Indian universities converge on the same core: financial accounting, business law, cost accounting, taxation, statistics, business economics and management. The prescribed authors are a short and well-known list, which makes second-hand buying unusually straightforward.

Semester structure helps too. A senior finishing semester four is holding exactly what you need for semester four, in the edition your department is still using.

• Financial and advanced accounting, plus practice problem books.
• Business law, company law and business communication.
• Cost and management accounting, statistics and quantitative methods.
• Taxation — the one subject to buy for the current assessment year.

Taxation is the exception to buying used

Direct and indirect tax material is written against a specific assessment year, with specific rates and thresholds. An older edition is not a cheaper version of the current book; it teaches superseded numbers, and examiners follow the current ones.

Accounting, costing, statistics and economics move slowly, and a recent previous edition is normally fine. Every listing states the edition and year, so applying this split takes seconds.

Buy the semester as a bundle

Six subjects a semester at ₹350 to ₹700 each new is a real cost, repeated six times over a degree. Buying used at roughly a quarter of MRP, in one cart with a single ₹100 delivery slab per five books, changes the arithmetic substantially.

If your university's list includes a title nobody has listed, search the author name in browse — the same book is often listed under a slightly different title by another university's student.

Selling at the end of a semester

List as soon as your papers finish, with the semester and university in the title. Taxation material in particular loses most of its value at the next year's change, so holding it back costs you the sale.
