ICSE prescribes more titles per class than most Indian boards, and a larger share of them come from private publishers rather than a single standard textbook body. The result is a set that costs noticeably more than a comparable CBSE one, with separate workbooks for several subjects.

That cost is what makes the used market worthwhile here. A complete class-wise ICSE set listed after the academic year ends is often the single largest saving a parent can make on school expenses.

  • Subject textbooks from the publishers your school prescribes — check the imprint, not just the title.
  • Workbooks and practice books, which ICSE uses more heavily than most boards.
  • Literature texts for English, which vary by school and year.

Publisher and edition matter more than usual

Because ICSE schools choose among publishers, two students in the same class in different schools can be prescribed different books for the same subject. Matching the title alone is not enough — match the publisher too.

Workbooks: read the photos carefully

The one category to inspect closely is workbooks, since a previous student may have written in the answers. A filled workbook is still useful for reference but is no use for practice, and it is graded lower for that reason.

Sellers are asked to photograph representative interior pages. If the workbook pages look clean in the photos, they are clean; if they are filled, the listing will show it.

Passing an ICSE set on
