Where to sell old textbooks in India — and how to do it online

Finished with your school set, coaching modules or semester books? This guide covers what they are worth, where to sell them, and how the whole flow works on OldTextBooks.com — from photographs to a UPI withdrawal.

Selling in four steps

1. Photograph the book

Cover, spine and two inside pages. Clear photos sell faster than any description.

2. Accept the suggested price

We suggest around 25% of MRP based on condition. You can adjust it before submitting.

3. Ship when it sells

Buyers pay delivery in slabs of ₹100 per 5 books, so bundled orders are common.

4. Withdraw to UPI

Earnings sit in your wallet; withdraw in multiples of ₹100 whenever you like.

Common seller questions

Where can I sell my old textbooks in India?

You have three realistic options: a local second hand book shop or raddi dealer, a general classifieds app, or a dedicated academic marketplace like OldTextBooks.com. Local shops pay by weight and rarely value the book itself; classifieds put you in touch with strangers and leave pricing, payment and delivery to you. A dedicated marketplace matches your book to students actually studying that syllabus, suggests a fair price and handles payment.

How do I sell used books online step by step?

Create an account, tap Sell, enter the title, author, class or course and MRP, then upload photos of the cover and a few inside pages. The system suggests a price at roughly 25% of MRP. Our team reviews the listing, it goes live, and when a buyer pays, the amount is credited to your wallet.

How much are my old textbooks worth?

As a rule of thumb, a used academic book sells at about 25% of its printed MRP. Condition matters most: unmarked copies with intact spines sell fastest, while heavily highlighted books need a lower price. Recent editions and books in current syllabus demand (NCERT, JEE/NEET, semester texts) hold value best.

When is the best time to sell school and college books?

Sell right after your exams end and before the next session starts — March to July for school books and semester breaks for college texts. Demand peaks when parents and students are buying sets for the new academic year.

How do I get paid?

Sale proceeds land in your OldTextBooks wallet. You can withdraw to UPI in multiples of ₹100, with a ₹100 minimum. You also earn 5% referral income when someone you referred buys or sells.

Can I sell coaching modules and guide books?

Yes. Coaching modules for JEE, NEET and state entrance exams are among the fastest-selling items here, since their content changes very little between batches.

Is selling on OldTextBooks.com free?

Listing is free. The platform adds a margin on top of your asking price for the buyer, so what you list is what you earn.
